Cotswold Energy Group

Creating a cohesive digital experience for a growing renewable energy company

I worked with Cotswold Energy Group across branding, UX, and UI design to help modernise the company’s digital presence and create a clearer, more joined-up customer experience — helping to better articulate the company’s services, to give the site a more commercial focus, and support its continued growth within the renewable energy sector.

UX review and recommendations

The project began with a review of Cotswold Energy Group's existing website to identify opportunities to improve both the user experience and overall effectiveness of the site. Alongside a best-practice UX audit, I used Userbrain to gather feedback from users interacting with the website. This helped uncover areas of confusion, friction and uncertainty that may not have been immediately visible through internal review alone.

The findings were consolidated into a set of recommendations, categorised by implementation effort and potential impact. Accompanied by visual examples and proposed solutions, these recommendations provided a practical roadmap for improving the site and ultimately informed the direction of the wider redesign project.

Website redesign

Following the UX review, the project progressed into a full redesign of the company's website.

The first stage focused on restructuring the site around the needs of its two primary audiences: domestic and commercial customers. Working with the wider team, I reviewed the existing information architecture and refined the user journeys to make it easier for visitors to find relevant services, understand the company's offering, and take meaningful next steps. Alongside the structural work, I also helped develop the content strategy and copywriting across key areas of the site. This involved finding clearer ways to communicate complex energy products and services, visualising their benefits, and creating stronger calls to action throughout the user journey.

As the project evolved, there was also an opportunity to modernise the company's digital presence. Building on the existing brand, I refined its application for the web through updated typography, improved use of colour, iconography and interface patterns, creating a more contemporary experience without losing the familiarity of the original identity.

Once the structure and content had been established, I designed a series of responsive layouts and modular UI components that brought the updated visual language to life. The result was a more modern-feeling, commercially focused website that improved both the user experience and the clarity of the company's messaging.

Outcome

The project helped establish a clearer and more unified digital presence for Cotswold Energy Group, combining brand refinement with improved usability across the customer experience.

Working across branding, UX, and UI design allowed me to contribute to both the strategic and visual evolution of the company’s digital platforms.
